Trading Places

Yesterday, I was telling DH how odd it was that the Princess and her friend like to change places. After church they beg to go home with the other family. Strange. I would never in a million years have done that. It was bad enough going to someone else's house. Except for a couple of best friends through the years, I was alway so shy that it was almost painful to have to be anywhere but home. Eating at someone else's house was pretty much torture. Iwas extremely picky and taking a chance on another Mom's cooking was terrifying. Once I was served liver. Another time it was huge, ugly, grey bratwurst! Ugh. Good grief, even after I was married and went to the in-laws I had to be polite and pick around gizzards in stuffing, and parts in a piece of brown meat chicken. Painful, I'm telling you. So, I am always shocked when these girls beg to go home with the other family....without even the friend to make it super fun. I just can't see the excitement in it. Playing with the brothers can't be all that much fun IMO. Poor little substitute princess, has been extremely good about eating whatever was served, but I always make sure to tell her that she doesn't have to eat it. I wish someone had done that for me a few times.

What about you? Did you ever switch families with a friend? Am I the only one who hated to eat at anyone else's house?

I've never switched places with a friend...not without the friend there. I'm better at eating other places now, not as picky as I used to be. But I rarely eat anywhere where people don't know my tastes or where I don't already know what we're going to eat.

I was with you.. It was pure torture eating what my mom prepared on Sundays (the veggies specifically) let alone playing Russian Roulette at someone elses table.

That's bizarre. I've never heard of kids doing that ~ or even WANTING to do that ~ before!

I loved going to friends' homes as a kid, but hated having them over. (only child syndrome ~ ya think??!!) I would have been FAR too shy, however, to go to a friend's house if she wasn't there.

♥ I loved going over to friends houses only if my friends were there though!!! I've never been served anything awful but if I'd have gotten the liver or gizzards then I would have thought twice the next time! :)

this made me laugh. I am a super picky eater but I (even as a kid) loved liver and onions and the gizzards were alway fought over at my house.

I think I must have been braver as a child than I am now. I am much more reserved about eating other peoples food as an adult than I ever was as a child.

I was a little of both. i would never have swithced without my friend, but yes for the most part I would have loved to get out of my house.
I get the picky food thing, I still have that problem I prefer to make most things so I know how it was prepared. ha ha you're so funny! I can't see you so painfully shy though, you're so not shy now. :)

I loved switching houses with my friends. Eating over was the best. I have to admit though, we kind of planned and coordinated. If we knew our parent was making something gross, we'd find the house where something yummy was being served and all go there! There was strategy I tell you! I'm super picky so this got me out of eating some nasty meals (or what I deemed to be nasty) at home. Heaven forbid I like sweet and sour chicken, lol!

we are all boobs. i never would have done that. i could only hang a a friends house if the friend was there. other peoples families scared me. and i could never eat over.

i couldn't eat on dates either. and eating at the in laws. scarred for life.

That is funny - my friends' moms always had like - Cup o Noodle, Chef Boy RD (I don't even know how it's spelled!!) or Mac & Cheese, toaster waffles - things we didn't get or knew they made

- or the other extreme - Chorizo, homemade tortillas, home made shanghai egg rolls... and I was the only girl with 2 younger brothers - so I ALWAYS wanted to escape!
