Photostory Friday - Flint and Steel

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Posted by Picasa

The other night we were preparing for girls camp by teaching the art of starting a fire. Even the girls who were hesitant and afraid of being burned, were smiling with triumph when they had succeeded in igniting a flame. There is something so basic in our desire to conquer the elements.

This is SO cool, and a skill that I think everyone should learn. I need to go get my some flink and cotton to put away in case of emergency! ")

Way cool! Now I'll know what to do if I'm ever deserted on a tropical island! :D

Girls Camp is the BEST. I'm jealous every year.

My fire making skills are, well, not so hot (punny!). Maybe I need some lessons from you!!!

Great PSF, as always!

Wow - that is so cool. Even I WOULD LOVE to know how to start a fire from scratch. I have a hard time doing it with a lighter! Thanks for playing PSF!

Kids always seem to have an interest in fire. My son still feels that little rush of adrenline each time we let him set up our campfire. :)

Lovely capture!

I remember it well. Sitting in a cold, damp wood on Guide Camp trying to get a fire started. The elation when it worked (thanks to a little tin of fire lighters I'd snuck in!)
