Enrichment Activity - Glass Painting

These are the glasses that I painted last night when I taught glass painting for an Enrichment Craft Group. It was really fun to sit and paint while visiting with some good friends.

I made these to go with this pitcher. I have about 8 more to paint! I'm thinking of doing a different fruit on each one so that people will be able to identify their glass and they won't use a million glasses in one day!

These are the paints that we used. They cost about $5 each and are available at Michael's and other art supply stores. You paint, then let it dry, and bake it in your oven. (They recommend that you not mix brands on one project, since they may need to be heated at different temps or might not work well together. But, before I knew that I mixed them, and it worked just fine.)

A couple of years ago, each of the kids painted a mug. These have been used daily and washed hundreds of times in the dishwasher.

I also painted this mailbox for my classroom. It works on tile, ceramic, metal, or glass. As long as it will fit in your oven to bake, you can do it! Go get some and try it out! (Don't forget, you don't have to buy a million - buy primary colors and mix your secondary colors. Also, white is good for mixing so you can lighten values.) Fun stuff!!!

Let dry 24 hours after painting. Place in cool oven, and bake for 45 minutes at 325 degrees F.

What a great idea to put a different fruit on each glass! Those all too cute!! I should try that!! How did you know that the glass would not break with the heat of the oven??

I bought some glass paint recently (recent as in like 6 months ago) and have been saving glass jars that appeal to me including a gigantic pickle jar. I can't wait to get started painting!
